New Albany Animal Clinic is honored to serve New Albany and the surrounding areas for everything animal related. Our clinic is owned and operated by Dr. David Childers and Dr. Mike Thompson. We are also proud to offer the services of Dr. Davis M. Hunt who has served as an associate veterinarian in our practice since 2013. We proudly serve New Albany and the surrounding areas with over 70 years combined experience. Our team strives to provide a comfortable environment for our patients and clients and we want everyone, either two legged or four, to feel welcome as soon as they enter our clinic.

Our team is committed to educating our clients on how to keep your pets healthy year round, with good nutrition and exercise. New Albany Animal Clinic stays on top of the latest advances in veterinarian technology and above all, remembers that all animals and pets need to be treated with loving care in every check-up, procedure, or surgery. We are one of the few true mixed animal practices in North Mississippi and offer our care and expertise to cats, dogs, horses, cattle, goats, and sheep.

Meet our Veterinarians

  • Dr.
    R. D. Childers

    Veterinarian, Senior Partner. Dr. Childers has been practicing veterinary medicine in Northeast Mississippi since 1978. Originally from Ashland, MS he participated in the local 4-H and FFA programs as well as played High School basketball at Ashland High. After graduating high school he completed he spent the next three years completing his undergraduate degree at Mississippi State University before entering Auburn University School of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Childers founded Willow Bend Animal Clinic in Holly Springs in August of 1978 and has been practicing ever since. Dr. Childers was honored to be named Mississippi Veterinarian of the Year in 2010. Dr. Childers makes his home in Holly Springs with his wife Sherry and his three daughters: Amanda, Emily, and Olivia. Dr. Childers’ wife, the other Dr. Childers, works at Blue Mountain College and both are actively involved in the Tippah and Union County communities. Dr. Childers is a strong supporter of community involvement and is on many local boards as well as serving as a deacon and Sunday School teacher at First Baptist Church.

  • Dr. M. A. Thompson

    Veterinarian, Partner. Thompson is a Board Certified Theriogenologist and currently serves as the President of the Society of Theriogenology. Dr. Thompson was selected as Mississippi Veterinarian of the Year in 2015. Dr. Thompson also makes his home in Holly Springs with his wife Terry and his two children: Rebecca (who is a dentist here in New Albany) and Josh. Dr. Thompson is also an active member in the community and serves as a deacon and Sunday School teacher at First Baptist Church.

  • Dr. D. M. Hunt

    Associate Veterinarian. Education: Mississippi State College of Veterinarian Medicine Dr. Hunt joined the practice as an associate veterinarian in 2013 and has contributed to the growth of the practice in Holly Springs as well as the practice in New Albany. Dr. Hunt is a graduate of Mississippi State College of Veterinarian Medicine as is his wife Megan. Dr. Hunt makes his home in Byhalia.

  • Dr.
    L. T. Smith

    Associate Veterinarian. Dr. Smith is a recent graduate of Mississippi State University College of Veterinary Medicine. Prior to veterinary school, she received Bachelor’s degrees in both Veterinary Medical Technology and Biological Sciences at Mississippi State. Dr. Smith, along with her husband Daniel and daughter Finley, are very excited about beginning the next chapter of their lives in New Albany. Two terriers, Abby and Sadie, complete the Smith family. Dr. Smith and her family reside in New Albany and enjoy being part of this close knit community.

    S. Dunaway
    Associate Veterinarian

    Dr. Dunaway is a recent graduate of Mississippi State University College of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Dunaway joined the practice as an associate veterinarian in May 2017. He and his wife, Cyndi, make their home in Byhalia with their Golden Retriever, Minnie.

There will be a Pet Loss Support Group meeting in Tupelo at the Lee County Library.

March 25 meeting will feature Reverend Dave Jensen who works with Compassionate Friends and with Hospice Care. Reverend Jensen comes from a family that loves and values animals, and is the co-founder of the pet loss support They will meet from 1:00-3:00

April 22 meeting will feature Dr. Taya Marquardt and Dr. Katie Cooley-Lock from Mississippi State University College of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Marquardt's areas of interest include oncology, canine lymphoma, palliative care/hospice, and client communication and education. Dr. Lock is an Internal Medicine resident. They will meet from 1:00-3:00.
